A fitness influencer has caused a stir online after sharing a video of herself doing skipping exercises with a hefty barbell tied to her rope.

The clip, which has taken social media by storm, shows the user known as @cdouyin172 bizarrely incorporating a weight lift into her skipping routine, effortlessly rotating the heavy bar under her legs and over her head, much like a child in a playground. However, she was in the centre of a busy gym, where onlookers were visibly taken aback by the unusual workout tactic.

In the footage that’s racked up over 222,000 likes, the woman’s antics come to a jaw-dropping halt when she abruptly stops, causing the bar to smack right into her shins. This move alone had viewers wincing in vicarious pain, while the bold gym-goer appeared remarkably unfazed by the mishap.

While viewers found themselves grimacing at the sight, comments poured in highlighting the collective shock. One TikTok user posted: “Even the man behind is shocked,” while another admitted: “My jaw dropped when that barbell hit her shin. if I’m here I will be crying on the floor.”

A third shared their amusement: “HAHHAHAHAHHA EVERYONE IS STRUGGLING EXCEPT THAT GIRL,” and popular workout brand, Gymshark, joked: “We know that hurt like a scooter to the ankle.”

While it is believed that the weight was either too light to cause damage or that it was faked for the purposes of a comedic skit, experts have responded to the clip warning about the safety risks of copying the stunt in your local gym.

Jose Guevara, a Garage Gym Equipment Tester at ShreddedDad.com, warns: “I don’t believe the video is real because it would be hard to get enough momentum to lift a loaded barbell with a jump rope.”

“But there a lots of risks involved with a stunt like that one. Anyone around her is at risk of getting hit with the weights – especially if the rope happens to snap, the weights would fly out.”
